Transparent tech is making a comeback. Do you remember the days when you could peer into your gadgets and marvel at their inner workings? When transparent tech was all the rage, and our iMacs, Nintendo 64 controllers, and other devices proudly showcased their guts?
Just like high-waisted jeans and vinyl records, it seems that what’s old is new again. That’s right… transparent tech is making a comeback.
We’ve journeyed through the tech fashion landscape together, haven’t we? From the beige keyboards of the ’80s to the grey and black plastic video game systems of the ’90s.
We welcomed the new millennium with translucent tech, only to bid it farewell as we embraced the piano white iPods of the ’00s and the matte black smartphones of the ’10s.
But just as questionable fashion has found its way back into our wardrobes, see-through devices are leapfrogging over today’s coloured aluminium and glass finishes to reclaim their throne.
Will they succeed? Only time will tell.
The Nothing Phone is leading the charge, flaunting its inner workings with pride. Beats Studio buds are jumping on the bandwagon, showing off their components through clear casings. Even game consoles and chargers are joining the party, with colourful translucent shells and USB-C cables revealing some tantalising capacitors.
Is this a trend you’re keen to revisit, or should it stay in the past?
