Remember when you opened a .doc file in WordPad because you didn’t want to buy Word?
Those days are numbered. After three decades of loyal service, Microsoft is finally giving WordPad the retirement party it deserves. Microsoft has announced it’ll stop updating it and will eventually remove it from Windows altogether.
But let’s be honest, how many times have you accidentally opened a document in WordPad when you were aiming for Notepad? The two look so similar it’s like telling apart identical twins.
Could this common mix-up be the reason behind WordPad’s impending retirement? Or is Microsoft just trying to nudge more people towards paying for Word, the star player of its Microsoft 365 suite?
We mustn’t let nostalgia cloud our judgment. As a seasoned Windows fan, I can tell you most of my interactions with WordPad have been unintentional. Its disappearance won’t cause me sleepless nights! There’s an abundance of word processors out there, and Word certainly has my loyalty.
Microsoft is asking for feedback via the Windows Feedback Hub app. So, if you do happen to feel strongly about this, make your opinion known.
Will you be sad to say farewell to WordPad?
