Guess who – or what – turned 21 today? Apple’s iCal!
It seems like just yesterday when we were marvelling at this innovative piece of software, allowing us to manage multiple calendars and sync them to our Bluetooth-enabled devices. Remember PalmOS devices and the early iPods? Ah, the good old days!
The name might confuse you. iCal is now simply known as ‘Calendar’, but when it was released it was a game-changer. It not only became a staple for Mac fans but also found its way into our pockets with the release of the iPhone in 2007.
And here’s a fun fact – Apple chose to display iCal’s launch date (the 17th of July) on their calendar emoji. Now that’s some clever branding!
So, here we are, 21 years later, and Calendar is all grown up. It’s seen us through countless meetings, birthdays, anniversaries, and even the odd reminder to water the plants. It’s been there, quietly keeping our lives organised while we hustle and make things happen.
As we celebrate this milestone, let’s raise a virtual glass to Calendar – the unsung hero of our daily grind. Here’s to 21 years of keeping us on track, and many more to come!
Happy 21st Birthday, Calendar – you’re officially all grown up!
